ReDirect Component
Preparing candidates for meaningful discipleship through biblical counseling ministry
About ReDirect
ReDirect is a vital component of the JDW Network that prepares candidates for a meaningful role in the making of Disciples through biblical counseling. Designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding and skills, ReDirect offers comprehensive training that includes theological education and counseling assessments.
This ministry emphasizes the importance of practical experience through frequent case study discussions, allowing participants to apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios. By engaging in various issues and challenges, candidates develop proficiency in addressing the complex needs of those they disciple.
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." — 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Important Disclaimer
The JDW Network is not a certifying organization or an accreditation organization. We are a 501(c)(3) resource mobilization ministry. In the instance of ReDirect, we are a conduit for "intense discipleship" training, using counseling as the vehicle for equipping the students for ministry within the walls of their local church under the jurisdiction of their local pastor.
Mission
ReDirect equips individuals for effective service in their communities by addressing both theological knowledge and practical counseling skills, focusing on fulfilling God's calling in their lives.
The JDW Network's Discipleship Standards
Theological Faithfulness
We believe that discipleship is fundamentally a practical theological task. The work of understanding the problems which require counseling and of helping people with those problems requires theological faithfulness and submission to the way God explains life. Therefore, we hold to a summary of Christian doctrine which we believe represents biblical standards that those who disciple must embrace to do their work faithfully.
Sufficiency of Scripture
We believe the contents of Scripture speak with authoritative relevance to the content of counseling conversations. Therefore, we hold that the Bible sufficiently informs the structure and content of counseling relationships.
Counseling Excellence
We believe that counseling must join accurate theology with godly character to honor the Lord Jesus and provide competent care. Therefore, the JDW Network is committed to setting standards of counseling excellence. At JDW we seek to maintain quality at every level in our organization to ensure that each disciple receives solid biblical counsel by our validated Discipleship Makers.
The Local Church
We believe the church is the primary context for soul care and "ministry validation" and that we must recover the church's responsibility to provide care for sufferers and sinners. Therefore, we encourage and support the indispensable ministry of biblical counseling as an expression of church life.
Essential and Non-Essential Doctrines
The JDW Network Journey begins with an approach to deal with the theological and doctrinal differences/discrepancies between denominations and the local church. We begin by stating JDW Networks' discernment between essential and non-essential doctrines.
The distinction between essential and non-essential doctrines is a complex issue within the Christian church and today's scientific society. Essential doctrines are foundational beliefs, such as the divinity of Christ (John 1:1) and salvation through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Non-essential doctrines include practices or interpretations that do not affect salvation, like views on baptism.
"I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." — 1 Corinthians 1:10
Essential Doctrines
These doctrines are foundational to the Christian faith and are typically held by all evangelical Christians:
- The Authority of Scripture: The Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God
- The Trinity: One God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- The Deity of Christ: Jesus is fully God and fully man
- The Virgin Birth: Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary
- The Incarnation: God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ
- The Resurrection: Jesus rose from the dead, demonstrating His victory over sin and death
- Salvation by Grace through Faith: Salvation is a gift from God, received by faith in Jesus Christ, not through works
- The Atonement: Jesus' sacrificial death paid the penalty for our sins
- Justification: Believers are declared righteous before God through faith in Christ
- Regeneration: The Holy Spirit transforms believers, giving them new life in Christ
- The Second Coming of Christ: Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead
- The Resurrection of the Dead: All will be resurrected for judgment—some to eternal life, some to eternal separation from God
- Judgment: God will judge the world in righteousness
- The Church: The universal body of believers, called to declare the Gospel and advance God's kingdom
- Eternal Life: Believers will dwell with God forever in heaven
Non-Essential Doctrines
These doctrines may vary among evangelical Christians and are often interpreted or practiced differently:
- Baptism: The mode and significance can vary
- Eschatology: Different views on the end times
- Spiritual Gifts: Varying opinions on the continuation of miraculous gifts
- Creation: Different interpretations of Genesis
- Church Governance: Varieties in church leadership structures
- Worship Styles: Preferences for traditional or contemporary worship
- The Role of Women in the Church: Different interpretations of women's roles in leadership
- Predestination and Free Will: Differing views on God's sovereignty and human choice
- Lord's Supper: Differences in understanding its significance
- Salvation for Those Who Have Never Heard the Gospel: Various views on this topic
Understanding Validation vs. Certification
Validation Process
The Validation Process is essential for recognizing counselors in local churches. It involves endorsement from the church's leadership to affirm a counselor's readiness and abilities. Validation emphasizes accountability and alignment with church values.
Why Not Certification?
Instead of holding ReDirect or any certifying organization accountable for how the procedure was set up, we should appreciate its positive role. This helpful approach supports individuals who may not fully qualify for any evangelical certification but have completed ACBC Stage 1, which includes at least 60 hours of training in the Fundamentals of Biblical Counseling.
By encouraging these individuals to develop their skills, ReDirect promotes a community of support. Good training helps disciple-makers serve their local church and community better by recognizing spiritual and emotional needs and offering suitable guidance.
"To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ" — Ephesians 4:12
The Church's Central Role
The church is considered the living body of Jesus Christ, redeemed by His sacrifice, and tasked with spreading His kingdom on earth. As the pillar and support of God's truth, the church plays a vital role in the work of counseling, which aims to convey that truth.
A. Disciple makers must prioritize the church's role in achieving their discipling mission. They should operate under the church's guidance and seek oversight for their personal lives, beliefs, and counseling methods.
B. Those who disciple must strive for the strongest possible ties between the church's oversight and the churches/centers where they work.
C. Those who make disciples should guide those they disciple towards active participation in a committed church community.
D. Those who make disciples should identify and recommend churches where the teachings of Christ are upheld and members are cared for through corrective church discipline.
Training Modules
Module 1: Exams and Evaluations
Complete Theology and Counseling Exams. Feedback from the people in your life will help ReDirect gain a clearer insight into your character, enabling them to assess your qualities and suitability for biblical counseling within various contexts and relationships.
The ReDirect examinations will assess your understanding of both theological concepts and practical counseling techniques, ensuring that you possess the necessary knowledge and skills required for effective discipleship making through biblical counseling in various contexts. This will be accomplished through an "open-book" 44 essay-style questions on (24) Theology and (20) Counseling (including 2 Case Studies).
Module 2: Supervised Counseling Sessions
In this phase, candidates gain practical experience by conducting 30 counseling sessions under supervision. They are required to demonstrate their counseling skills and apply the principles learned during the training phase.
The "Validation" Phase
The final phase involves a formal evaluation process where candidates will also submit written materials and undergo an interview to assess their understanding and application of biblical counseling. Upon successful completion, they are "Validated" by their Pastor as being able to counsel biblically within their local church.
